Delta Airlines, one of the major United States airlines, traces its origins back to 1924. It began as a crop-dusting operation called Huff Daland Dusters. Founded by former Army pilot C.E. Woolman in Macon, Georgia, the company initially focused on agricultural flying, using surplus military aircraft.
In 1925, the company was restructured and renamed Delta Air Service, taking its name from the Mississippi Delta region where it operated. The airline’s first passenger service began on June 17, 1929, offering flights between Monroe, Louisiana, and Dallas, Texas.
Over the following decades, Delta expanded its passenger services and routes, gradually transitioning to a major airline. In the 1930s, Delta began operating scheduled flights and, by the end of World War II, had established a robust network. Delta became one of the original members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1945.
Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Delta continued to grow through mergers and acquisitions. It played a significant role in the airline industry’s evolution, including being one of the first airlines to introduce a hub-and-spoke system, a model that enhanced efficiency and connectivity.
Today, Delta Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world, known for its extensive domestic and international routes, modern fleet, and significant presence in the airline industry. any Enquiry Fly Travel Board at +1 (844) 539-5787.
