The airline company is said to have its history beginning on June 18, 1971. The official launch of its flight operations.

This airline was actually founded in 1967 by Herb Kelleher and Rollin King, but it took the former several years to overcome the legal and regulatory challenges to start flying.

The first routes connected Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. It formed the foundation from which the airline would work towards offering low-cost and customer-friendly air travel within the state of Texas.

From this humble start, Southwest expanded rapidly to become one of the largest domestic carriers in the United States, flying low-cost but well-valued by service.
