When does Southwest Airlines typically have sales or discounts on flights?

Southwest Airlines actually employs a type of seating policy that is quite the opposite from most other typical airline systems. Here’s how southwest airlines seating process works:

1. Open Seating:

-No Reserved Seats: Unlike the traditional airline system, Southwest Airlines does not have assigned seats for the passengers. Instead, it uses an open seating procedure whereby passengers are free to sit anywhere in any available seat once they board the aircraft.

2. Boarding Process:
Group Boarding: The passengers are assigned to one of the three boarding groups A, B, or C along with a position between 1 and 60, in relation to the check-in time they had.
EarlyBird Check-In: This is a fee product that is optional whereby passengers pay to board ahead of other passengers so that they are likely to acquire the seat they like.
– Standard Check-In: You get a boarding position upon check-in 24 hours prior to travel. That is how many seats are available at that point in time, and those may be on the back of the A, B, or C group.
3. Boarding Process:
– A Group First: All those passengers who have been issued an A group boarding pass are permitted to board the aircraft first. Then, B group will be allowed access, and only after them will be the C group. In this manner, passengers who check in early have a larger seat choice.
4. Seat Selection:
– First Come, First Serve: A passenger selects an available seat after boarding. Frequent fliers, or passengers boarding first, typically get a choice of many seats.

5. Family Boarding:
Southwest will permit families with children under 6 years old to board with group A if not assigned that group. Therefore, families have a better chance at sitting together.
6. More Available Choices:
– Upgrade Options: Travelers can pay an upgrade fee to get a “Business Select” ticket which offers some premium perks, including priority boarding, additional Rapid Rewards points, and free drink service.

7. Tips:

– Do Check-in in advance: This is the best opportunity to gain a good boarding position.
-Southwest App: You can check-in easily and keep track of your boarding positions in the Southwest app.
