What does Flight 175 Symbolize United Airlines Flight 175

United Airlines Flight 175 sealed history forever as it became a symbol of the role in these catastrophic and tragic events of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

United Airlines Flight 175 is now one of four hijacked planes that morning and remains to this day an anguished reminder of loss, heroism, and the irreparable impact that terrorism was to deliver to the United States and all the world.

That this flight was involved not only in a couple of tragic events of that day but also in changes, permanent in the effects brought to the security of aviation and collective memory of the American public.

United Airlines Flight 175:

United Airlines Flight 175 was meant to be a typical domestic flight. Its departure time was to start at Boston’s Logan International Airport and westbound to Los Angeles International Airport. The Flight 175 was one of the everyday morning departures, one with bad luck-by carrying 56 passengers with a complement of 5 crew scheduled for making the trip. This plane would also have its journey change things forever.

Flight Information

  • Flight No: United Airlines Flight 175
  • City of Take Off: Logan International Airport, Boston, MA
  • Destination: Los Angeles International Airport, CA
  • Scheduled Take Off Time: 8:14 AM
  • Passengers on Board: 56; Stewards/Stewardesses: 5

Hijacking and Events End

Five hijackers commandeered United Airlines Flight 175 sometime shortly after 8:42 AM-about 28 minutes into a flight from Boston.

That was already enough to divert the plane off some of the routings that had already been predesignated for the flight and not one of the passengers, though they were just beginning to get suspicious, had any idea of what was going on or what was happening.

United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City at 9:03 a.m. This resulted in a massive explosion that ended in a large fire.

The structural damage was also significant. The damage combined with that the American Airlines Flight 11 had already committed to the North Tower upon crashing it into it led to a fatal, catastrophic collapse of both towers within less than an hour as thousands lost their lives and changed the skyline of New York City forever.

Major Events:

  • 8:42 A.M: Hijackers took over Flight 175
  • 9:03 A.M: Aircraft crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
  • Site Immediate Response: The fire and blast caused horror fires from within that eventually made the building collapse.

Passengers’ Intestinal Struggle

Though it was a sad moment, it was on United Airlines Flight 175, which also highlights the extraordinary bravery of people who boarded that flight. When the hijackers hijacked the flight, though they could not know all the details of the attack, people on board were aghast. In response to this, the passengers inside the plane retaliated against the hijackers. They could not take control of the plane; however, it was sufficient enough to stop any more harm that may have been done.

Passengers like United Airlines Flight 93, who opposed hijacking by storming the cockpit, are an absolute epitome of courage. All the efforts on their part remind everybody how heroic things ordinary people might be found doing at moments that seem incredible in life. Their acts have now become etched in the collective memory of 9/11 as heroes.

Heroic Efforts:

  • Passengers of United Airlines Flight 175 fought back the hijackers.
  • Although the heroic act could not save the flight from crashing, it is one act worthy of the name.

Effects on Aviation and Security to Date

  • Other two perpetrators in the 9/11 attacks were United Airlines Flight 175. They gave birth to many large-scale changes in air security measures into life.
  • Among new regulations and security measures by the U.S. government that emerged after the attacks in a bid to ensure hijacking did not happen again are; Transportation Security Administration, strengthened cockpit doors, and passenger-screening procedures.
  • In addition to all this, and losing United Airlines Flight 175 itself, the effects of 9/11 live on in the cultural and emotive sense, too. Relatives and friends of those on board in that flight and of those losing family at the World Trade Center remember the victims and pay their tributes to memories by erecting memorials and public tribute.

Airline Security:

There was a new term placed in the wake of 9/11 attacks that comprises TSA and security checkup everywhere. Better measures for security issues employed, proper cock-pit door, and better screening procedure.
